Water & Life Lab (Water & Life Lab Srl) is an Italian accredited testing laboratory headquartered in Entratico, in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy. Founded in 1981 as an environmental awareness initiative, the company opened its first chemical analysis laboratory in 1988, initially focusing on emission monitoring and water quality analysis. Over the following decades it expanded into food and agricultural testing, opening additional operational centers in Casalmaggiore (Province of Cremona) in 2011 and in Salerno in 2012. In the agri-food sector Water & Life Lab is highly specialized in pesticide residue monitoring in fruit, vegetables, and cereals. It is listed on Italy's FRUIT MONITORING register of laboratories authorized to perform pesticide residue surveillance programs, and holds specific government authorization to analyze food products destined for export to the Russian Federation and to Japan. The laboratory also performs the accredited quantification of ethylene oxide (ossido di etilene) in oilseeds — including linseed, peanuts, poppy seeds, and sesame — an area of heightened regulatory focus under EU food safety legislation. Microbiological analysis is a core food-testing competency, covering hygiene indicators, pathogens, and spoilage organisms across fresh, frozen, and processed agricultural matrices. The laboratory holds Ministerial authorization for organic and biological farming product analysis and holds an AIC (Associazione Italiana Celiachia — Italian Celiac Association) recommendation for gluten quantification, supporting allergen management programs. Water & Life Lab holds several sector-specific certifications that extend its reach into export-facing food quality programs. It is approved under the German QS (Qualität und Sicherheit) system for pesticide monitoring in fruit and vegetables, enabling it to serve European buyers and retail chains that require QS-compliant supplier assurance. It also holds BNN (Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren) certification from the German natural food trade association for residue and contaminant monitoring in organic products, supporting access to German and Northern European organic retail markets. The laboratory is listed as a COOP Italia qualified laboratory for food self-monitoring, and holds Ministry of Health authorization for food industry self-monitoring analysis and for asbestos analysis. It has established a partnership with Ecosolutions in Turkey for market oversight, further extending its international service reach. Water & Life Lab is accredited by ACCREDIA — Italy's national accreditation body — to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence. The original accreditation certificate (no. 00081) was obtained in 1994 covering chemical sampling and analysis, with the scope extended to microbiological analysis in 2002. ACCREDIA's membership in the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) mutual recognition arrangement means that test reports issued by Water & Life Lab are formally accepted in more than 35 countries without the need for re-testing. The laboratory additionally holds ISO 9001:2015 (quality management system), ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management system), and ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health and safety management), all certified by DNV. Analytical performance is verified annually through participation in inter-laboratory proficiency tests and ring tests organized by UNICHIM, SILPA, LGC, FAPAS, QS, and ARPA Emilia Romagna. In 2009 Water & Life Lab joined Groupe CARSO, a French laboratory group established in 1992 that operates approximately twenty laboratories across Europe with more than 2,500 employees. This partnership gave rise to CARSO Italia, a network of five Italian testing facilities: Water & Life Lab Srl (Entratico, BG), INDAM LABORATORI Srl (Castelmella, BS), F.O.R.I.A Srl (Dalmine, BG), Agro.Biolab Laboratory (Rutigliano, BA), and Arace Laboratori Srl (San Severo, FG).
