About

Materiaal Metingen Testgroep B.V., trading as MME Group, is a Netherlands-based independent testing, inspection, and corrosion-prevention company founded in 1963 and headquartered in Ridderkerk, South Holland, near the Port of Rotterdam. With more than 250 employees, seven branch offices across the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and a worldwide network of agents, MME Group has grown from its origins as a specialist in material measurement into a globally respected group whose guiding philosophy — "A Longer Life" — expresses its mission of extending the serviceable life of assets, structures, vessels, and products through rigorous scientific testing and preventive engineering.

The company is organised into four specialised operating divisions covering non-destructive testing, destructive and metallurgical laboratory testing, marine surveys and corrosion consultancy, and cathodic protection systems. This multi-disciplinary structure enables MME Group to deliver integrated asset-integrity services that accompany a product or structure from manufacture through its entire operational life. Clients include base-material producers, original equipment manufacturers, shipowners, offshore energy operators, classification societies, insurers, and heavy industrial facilities. The company is especially active in maritime shipping, offshore oil and gas, offshore renewable energy (including wind-farm foundations and tidal structures), and general heavy engineering and infrastructure.

MME Group's non-destructive testing capabilities form one of its most comprehensive service lines. Qualified NDT inspectors carry out ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT), eddy-current and electromagnetic testing (ET), and visual inspection (VT), applying these methods to base materials, welds, fabricated components, pressure vessels, piping systems, and in-service installations. NDT inspections are executed both in the laboratory and on-site using rope-access technicians, enabling examination of difficult-to-reach structures such as ship hulls, offshore platforms, bridges, and storage tanks. All work is carried out in accordance with the standards and codes required by the client, the relevant classification society, or the applicable regulatory body.

The destructive metallurgical laboratory in Ridderkerk provides a broad range of mechanical and chemical testing services. Mechanical tests include tensile testing, Charpy impact testing, bend tests, and hardness testing by Brinell, Vickers, and Rockwell methods. Metallurgical investigation encompasses grain-structure analysis, macro- and micro-section examination, weld-qualification testing per applicable fabrication standards, and full failure analysis — identifying root causes of fractures, material degradation, and in-service failures on behalf of industrial clients, insurers, and legal proceedings. Chemical analysis is performed to verify alloy composition and to detect contamination or non-conformance with material specifications. An in-house machining shop produces test specimens to the exact dimensions demanded by governing standards, eliminating outsourcing delays and enabling short turnaround times for time-critical projects.

Materialaal Metingen Testgroep B.V. holds dual accreditation from the Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA), the national accreditation body of the Netherlands and a full member of EA (European co-operation for Accreditation). The company is accredited as a testing laboratory under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (RvA registration number L 208) and simultaneously as a Type A fully independent inspection body under EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 (RvA registration number I 019, current validity from March 2024). ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is the internationally recognised benchmark for laboratory technical competence, confirming that test methods, measurement traceability, and quality controls have been independently verified. Type A status under ISO/IEC 17020 confirms that the inspection body is free from commercial pressure from the parties it inspects, a critical requirement for third-party certification work.

Corrosion prevention and cathodic protection constitute a further major practice area. MME Group designs and supplies both sacrificial anode systems — using zinc, aluminium, and magnesium alloys — and impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems to protect ships, offshore structures, jetties, subsea pipelines, and coastal infrastructure. Corrosion consultants conduct surveys and electrochemical potential measurements, prepare corrosion management plans, and carry out cathodic protection surveys during dry-docking or in-water inspections. Marine surveys include thickness measurements by ultrasonic gauging, steel condition surveys, and corrosion mapping that feeds directly into owners' asset-management programmes and classification-society requirements. An active research and development programme supports continuous improvement of anode alloys and ICCP control technology.

Beyond its primary materials and NDT focus, MME Group's service portfolio extends to marine growth prevention systems, aluminium pilot-boarding ladders and gangways, and the inspection and certification of playground and recreational equipment to applicable European safety standards. The company's location in the greater Rotterdam area places it at the heart of one of the world's busiest port complexes, providing immediate access to vessels in port, to the regional offshore and petrochemical industry, and to a dense network of engineering and manufacturing clients across the Netherlands and Belgium. With more than six decades of accumulated expertise, ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory facilities, a Type A inspection body accreditation, and a multi-divisional structure capable of addressing the full asset lifecycle, MME Group is a credible and long-established partner for materials testing, metallurgical investigation, failure analysis, NDT inspection, and corrosion engineering challenges.
