ASSOCIACIÓ PORCSA GRUP DE SANEJAMENT PORCÍ LLEIDA — operating under the trade name GSP-Lleida (Grup de Sanejament Porcí de Lleida, or Porcine Sanitation Group of Lleida) — is a specialist veterinary diagnostic laboratory dedicated exclusively to swine health, located at Partida La Caparrella 97 C, 25192 Lleida, in the Catalonia region of Spain. Established in 1995 as a non-profit association, the organization was created to unite all pig owners in the Terres de Lleida region — independent farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and vertically integrated livestock enterprises — around a shared mission of improving the sanitary status of the porcine sector and maximizing farm profitability through systematic disease surveillance, early diagnosis, and prevention. The laboratory holds official recognition as the porcine laboratory for Catalonia, granted by the Departament d'Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentació i Medi Natural (DAAM) of the Catalan Government under resolution AAM/2492/2011. This formal regulatory recognition reflects the facility's compliance with official veterinary diagnostic standards and underpins the legal validity of its test results for disease-control programs. The laboratory works in close institutional collaboration with DAAM and with Spain's national agricultural ministry MAGRAMA (Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente), and its diagnostic services extend to producers and veterinary teams across all Spanish territories, not only Catalonia. ELISA panels are offered for Aujeszky's Disease (Malaltia d'Aujeszky) in three distinct formats — antibodies against glycoprotein gE (for marker-vaccine differentiation), glycoprotein gB, and total antibodies against the virus — as well as for Swine Vesicular Disease (Malaltia Vesicular Porcina), Classical Swine Fever (Pesta Porcina Clàssica / PPC), African Swine Fever (Pesta Porcina Africana / PPA), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS, including oral-fluid ELISA), Swine Influenza, Porcine Circovirus type II (PCV2, both IgG and IgM antibody classes), Erysipelas caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae (Mal Roig), Porcine Brucellosis (Brucella suis, using indirect ELISA, blocking ELISA, and Rose Bengal agglutination), Porcine Leptospirosis (Leptospira interrogans serovar Bratislava), and Porcine Parvovirus. GSP-Lleida provides an extensive molecular diagnostics service with a committed 24-hour turnaround for PCR results (Servei de PCR en 24 hores). The molecular menu covers a wide range of pathogens using real-time RT-PCR and qPCR technologies: PRRS virus identification and strain differentiation between European and American lineages, Swine Influenza type A detection and RT-PCR-based subtype characterization, PCV2, African Swine Fever virus (qPCR), Brucella suis (qPCR), Leptospira spp., Chlamydia spp., Porcine Parvovirus, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, and Pasteurella multocida toxin A (for atrophic rhinitis diagnosis, Rinitis Atròfica). For PRRS, the laboratory additionally offers genome sequencing covering ORF5, ORFs 2–7, or the complete genome, enabling phylogenetic strain tracking and molecular epidemiology — a critical tool for outbreak investigation and herd biosecurity management. The bacteriology section at GSP-Lleida provides classical culture and isolation combined with state-of-the-art MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry for rapid and accurate species identification of key swine pathogens, including Pasteurella multocida, Bordetella bronchiseptica, and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Antibiotic susceptibility testing (antibiograms) is performed for Pasteurella multocida and Bordetella bronchiseptica, providing prescribing veterinarians with the evidence needed to optimize antimicrobial treatment protocols, support responsible antibiotic use, and reduce the risk of resistance development at farm level.
