Structure/Function Claim

A claim about how an ingredient affects the body's structure or function - allowed with substantiation + a disclaimer.

A structure/function claim describes how a nutrient or ingredient affects the normal structure or function of the body - e.g. "supports immune health" or "promotes restful sleep." Allowed under DSHEA, they require two things: substantiation, and the FDA disclaimer ("This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA...").

They are not disease claims ("treats," "cures," "prevents") - using those turns your supplement into an unapproved drug. Substantiation means identity and potency data plus literature support for the claimed benefit at that dose.
