About

Laboratorio Analítico Agro Industrial (LAAI) is Uruguay's largest national laboratory dedicated to quality evaluation and control, offering a comprehensive suite of chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses across the agricultural, food, environmental, and industrial sectors. Founded on a mission to serve Uruguay's productive economy, LAAI provides analytical services spanning the entire supply chain — from raw primary production inputs such as soils, seeds, and fertilizers through to finished industrialized food products and chemical commodities. The laboratory's deep technical scope and national geographic coverage make it a central reference institution for businesses, producers, and exporters requiring reliable, accredited analytical data anywhere in Uruguay.

LAAI offers a full spectrum of testing services across an exceptionally wide range of sample matrices. The laboratory evaluates food products of all kinds under its food safety (inocuidad alimentaria) program, assessing microbiological safety, chemical contaminants, nutritional composition, and physical properties. Agricultural matrices routinely analyzed include grains, animal feed rations (raciones), silage (silos), pastures, leaf material, seeds, soils, agrochemicals, and fertilizers — covering the critical inputs and outputs of Uruguay's dominant agricultural sector. Water and industrial effluents are also analyzed, providing environmental compliance services to agricultural and industrial operators requiring regulatory monitoring data.

A strategically important expansion of LAAI's analytical portfolio is its dedicated program for the analysis of cannabis and hemp flower (inflorescencias) and extracts. These services cover the chemical composition of raw cannabis flower and processed extract matrices, serving licensed producers and processors operating within Uruguay's regulated cannabis framework. This capability is underpinned by the laboratory's investment in a new Triple Quad LC-MS/MS system from AB Sciex, one of the industry's most advanced liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry platforms, which enables highly sensitive simultaneous detection of cannabinoids, residues, and trace contaminants at parts-per-billion and parts-per-trillion concentrations.

The AB Sciex Triple Quad LC-MS/MS platform substantially enhances LAAI's capacity for multi-residue pesticide and agrochemical analysis, veterinary drug residue testing, mycotoxin determination, and trace contaminant quantification across all food and agricultural matrices. Operating at this sensitivity level, the system meets the analytical thresholds demanded by both Uruguayan domestic regulatory authorities and the international markets to which Uruguayan agricultural commodities are exported. This instrumentation complements the laboratory's established physical chemistry and microbiological infrastructure, giving LAAI a genuinely multi-disciplinary analytical capability managed under a single integrated quality system.

LAAI operates under a Quality Management System certified to ISO 9001:2015 and holds accreditations under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 — the international standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence — across a broad range of national and international schemes. The laboratory emphasizes participation in international interlaboratory proficiency testing programs, which provide independent external verification of analytical performance and result traceability. This combination of quality certifications, formal accreditations, and ongoing proficiency participation gives clients high confidence in the accuracy, repeatability, and international comparability of LAAI's reported results.

LAAI operates from three strategically positioned facilities distributed across Uruguay to ensure broad coverage of the country's major productive agricultural regions. The central laboratory (Laboratorio Central) is located in Paysandú in the northwest of Uruguay (Route 90, Km 5; GPS -32.3239, -58.0464), serving the important agricultural zones of the western Litoral. A second laboratory operates in Durazno in the country's interior (Route 5, Km 177; GPS -33.4374, -56.4887), and a third is established in Santa Lucía in southern Uruguay (Route 11, Km 87.5; GPS -34.4661, -56.3683), close to the Montevideo metropolitan production hinterland. A coordinated logistics network links all three sites, allowing samples to be received and processed from any point in the country.

LAAI provides clients with continuous digital access to their analytical data through a proprietary intranet platform and dedicated mobile applications, enabling real-time visibility into results, work-in-progress status, historical statistics, and other account information from any location. Customer service is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. by telephone, supplemented by live online chat during business hours. The laboratory also generates its own clean, sustainable, and renewable energy for its operations, reflecting an institutional commitment to environmental responsibility. Taken together — the breadth of accreditations, cutting-edge triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry, national logistics infrastructure, digital data access, and demonstrated sustainability practices — LAAI presents itself as a credible, well-resourced analytical partner for agricultural producers, food processors, exporters, and regulated-industry operators throughout Uruguay.
