CAASA, TECNOLOGÍA DEL AGUA

Spain Lorquí· 9:50 PM

CAASA, TECNOLOGÍA DEL AGUA, S.A. is a Spanish water technology company headquartered in Lorquí, Murcia, with close to five decades of continuous operation since its founding in 1975. The company specializes in comprehensive water quality analysis, environmental engineering, and water management consulting, serving a broad client base that spans public administrations at the national, regional, and local level, as well as private industry, state-owned entities, and utilities. With approximately 37 highly qualified technical professionals, CAASA has established itself as one of the leading specialized water testing and environmental services providers in southeastern Spain. The core analytical laboratory performs extensive physico-chemical and microbiological testing across a wide range of water matrices, including drinking water (potable water), natural freshwaters (springs, wells, rivers, and reservoirs), wastewater from industrial and urban discharges, marine waters, sludge, soils, and leachate. Key analytes and parameter groups routinely measured include heavy metals in dissolved or total forms, pesticides (organochlorine and organophosphate compounds), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), triazine herbicides, disinfection by-products including trihalomethanes (THMs), bromates, cyanotoxins such as microcystin, nutrients, suspended solids, biochemical and chemical oxygen demand (BOD/COD), and standard water quality parameters including pH, turbidity, color, conductivity, and hardness. The laboratory also conducts field in-situ measurements for temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, redox potential, salinity, and free/total chlorine, enabling complete sample characterization from collection through final reporting. CAASA's instrumental capabilities underpin its wide analytical scope. The laboratory employs atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) for trace metal determinations; gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for organic contaminants including pesticides, VOCs, and PAHs; ion chromatography for anions and cations; UV-visible molecular absorption spectrometry; infrared spectroscopy; potentiometry and conductivity measurement; gravimetric techniques; and phase-contrast microscopy for biological assessments. Participation in inter-laboratory proficiency testing exercises through recognized comparison circuits has been ongoing since at least 2005, ensuring the accuracy, precision, and traceability of reported results. The microbiological laboratory carries out full microbiological characterization of water samples, detecting and enumerating indicator organisms and pathogenic groups relevant to drinking water safety, bathing water quality, wastewater treatment performance, and ecological status assessment. Ecotoxicological testing (ensayos ecotoxicológicos) forms a further specialized service at CAASA, used to evaluate the toxic potential of industrial effluents and contaminated environmental samples on aquatic organisms — a capability that supports regulatory discharge permit applications, industrial authorization processes, and Environmental Impact Studies (Estudios de Impacto Ambiental). Beyond its analytical laboratory, CAASA's Technical Office (Oficina Técnica) delivers a full range of water engineering and environmental consulting services. These include soil characterization and contamination studies (estudios de caracterización y contaminación de suelos), ecological quality evaluation of water bodies in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive, the design and commissioning of wastewater treatment plants (plantas depuradoras) and drinking water treatment plants (potabilizadoras), ongoing operational monitoring and control of treatment stations, industrial discharge inspection and auditing, and energy efficiency assessments for treatment facilities. This integrated offering gives clients a single technical partner for both laboratory analysis and engineering project needs. CAASA holds ENAC (Entidad Nacional de Acreditación — Spain's national accreditation body and a full member of EA and ILAC) accreditation nº 486 LE/1065 under ISO/IEC 17025 for environmental testing and sampling, and ENAC accreditation 181/EI333 as an ISO/IEC 17020 Type C Inspection Entity for environmental inspections. Additional quality certifications include ISO 9001 (Quality Management System, certificate ES10/7929) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System, certificate ES08/5860). CAASA is authorized as a Water Administration Collaborating Entity (Entidad Colaboradora) by Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (references E.C.012/1 and E.C.012/2) for water quality monitoring and discharge control, with equivalent recognition from the regional authorities of Murcia (file 193/05), Valencia (012/ECMCA), and Andalusia (REC050). The laboratory is registered in the Public Health Laboratory Registries of Murcia (A/038, B/038) and Valencia (LA/0156), and is listed by Spain's Ministry of Health under Royal Decree 140/2003, Annex III, governing laboratories authorized to analyze water intended for human consumption. CAASA's extensive accreditation framework and long-standing relationships with river basin authorities — including the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura — regional governments, municipalities, and private industry make it a credible and technically rigorous testing partner for organizations requiring reliable water quality data, regulatory compliance support, or environmental impact assessment anywhere in Spain. Its geographic base in the Murcia region, an area of intensive agriculture, significant industrial activity, and complex municipal water management demands, has shaped a service portfolio particularly well-suited to characterizing mixed-use water environments and supporting permitting and discharge monitoring programs across multiple regulatory regimes.
