About

Emirates Industrial Laboratory (EILAB), established in 1984 and headquartered at Drydocks World-Dubai in Port Rashid, is one of the most established multi-disciplinary industrial testing, inspection, and technical services organizations in the Middle East. With over 40 years of continuous operation and more than one million tests and inspections completed, EILAB holds the distinction of being the first commercial laboratory in the Middle East to bring together metallurgy, chemistry, non-destructive testing (NDT), field inspection, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and welding consultancy all under one roof. The company serves clients across the UAE and in more than ten countries worldwide.

EILAB operates from two primary facilities: its main laboratory at Drydocks World-Dubai (Port Rashid) and a second testing facility in Mussaffah, Abu Dhabi, with a head office located opposite Union House, Dubai. Representative offices in Fujairah, Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, Nigeria, China, and India enable the company to deploy field teams and support clients across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Asia, and Africa. Landmark assignments such as the structural inspection and consultancy work on Ain Dubai—the world's largest observation wheel—illustrate the breadth of assets and geographies EILAB's teams address.

EILAB's core markets are the oil and gas sector, the marine and offshore industry, and wider general engineering. Refineries, petrochemical plants, pipelines, pressure vessels, storage tanks, ship structures, and industrial fabrications represent the principal asset types the company serves. EILAB holds formal vendor approval from ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) under Approval No. 10000500, qualifying the laboratory for Abu Dhabi energy projects requiring approved-vendor-list (AVL) status. The company is additionally approved by leading international marine classification societies—Lloyd's Register (LRS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Bureau Veritas (BV), Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK), RINA, and DNV—for ultrasonic thickness survey of ship structures.

Non-Destructive Testing is one of EILAB's central competencies, with a fully equipped NDT department covering both conventional and advanced specialized techniques. Conventional NDT includes visual inspection, boroscopic and videoscopic examination, X-ray and gamma-ray radiography, digital radiography, ultrasonic flaw detection, ultrasonic thickness gauging, eddy current testing, magnetic particle testing (MT), dye and liquid penetrant testing (PT), and vacuum box testing. Advanced capabilities extend to Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC), acoustic emission testing, and leak testing. Cost-effective rope access techniques allow NDT crews to inspect elevated or confined structures without scaffolding, while mobile field teams serve client sites across the region.

EILAB's fixed laboratory performs a comprehensive suite of mechanical and metallurgical tests on metals, alloys, and welded components. Mechanical testing—ISO/IEC 17025 accredited for the mechanical testing division—covers tensile testing (ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, elongation), Charpy and Izod impact testing, Vickers, Brinell, and Rockwell hardness determination, guided bend testing, and nick-break testing for weld procedure qualifications to ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and equivalent codes. Metallurgical evaluation encompasses macrostructural and microstructural examination, grain size determination per ASTM E112, inclusion rating, heat-affected zone (HAZ) characterization, weld cross-section analysis, and fractographic examination for failure analysis investigations.

Chemical analysis at EILAB covers compositional verification of metals, waste water, potable water, process gases, and scale deposits, supporting procurement quality control, material traceability, and environmental monitoring. Optical emission spectrometry (OES) provides precise elemental analysis of metallic alloys, and since 2023, a combined XRF and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) system—the ONE BOX portable analyzer—enables rapid positive material identification (PMI) and alloy verification both in the laboratory and in the field. Corrosion testing evaluates material susceptibility to intergranular attack, stress corrosion cracking, and other degradation mechanisms common in upstream and downstream oil and gas environments, following ASTM, NACE/AMPP, and ISO protocols.

EILAB's inspection division delivers both inline (live-line) and shutdown inspection programs for process plants, pipelines, and marine structures. Remaining Life Assessment (RLA), Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations referencing API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) studies form a structured asset integrity management offering that helps operators prioritize maintenance and extend equipment life safely. Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) and welding consultancy, combined with fabrication-stage inspection covering dimensional verification, weld quality, coating and lining assessment, and compliance review against ASME, API, AWS, and NACE/AMPP codes, provide end-to-end quality oversight from construction through to in-service operation.

EILAB operates under an Integrated Management System certified to ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), with all three certifications maintained through independent third-party audits. The mechanical testing laboratory holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, the international benchmark for laboratory technical competence, providing formal measurement traceability and independent assurance of test result reliability. With four decades of project history, ADNOC vendor registration, classification-society approvals, and a broad portfolio of accredited mechanical, metallurgical, chemical, NDT, and integrity services, EILAB is a credible and well-resourced quality partner for heavy industry across the UAE, the GCC, and internationally.
