About

CIATEQ (Centro de Investigación y Asistencia en Tecnología del Estado de Querétaro), incorporated as Centro de Tecnología Avanzada, A.C., is a Mexican Public Research Center (Centro Público de Investigación) founded in November 1978 in Querétaro, Mexico. Established through a tripartite collaboration among the federal government — originally through CONACYT, now reorganized as the Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (SECIHTI) — the state government of Querétaro, and regional industrialists, CIATEQ has grown into one of Mexico's foremost applied research and industrial technology-service institutions. Over more than 45 years of operation the center has completed over 5,000 industry-linked projects and delivered more than 51,000 technological services to approximately 5,000 clients across Mexico and beyond.

The center operates seven strategically distributed locations across the Mexican Republic — including its headquarters in Querétaro, a major 30,000 m² campus in the Doña Rosa Industrial Park in Lerma (State of Mexico), a laboratory in Aguascalientes, and offices in additional states — providing near-national coverage for industrial and research clients. CIATEQ's specialization is organized into six core technological areas: advanced manufacturing; virtual engineering and manufacturing; plastics and advanced materials; information technology, electronics, and control; metrology and measurement systems; and destructive and non-destructive testing. This multi-disciplinary structure enables the center to address complex, cross-functional technical challenges for private industry and public-sector institutions alike.

CIATEQ's metrology laboratory is one of its flagship service capabilities, accredited by the Entidad Mexicana de Acreditación (EMA) under the standard NMX-EC-17025-IMNC-2018 / ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for both calibration and testing services. All measurements carry traceability to national standards maintained by CENAM (Centro Nacional de Metrología), Mexico's national metrology institute, with accreditation renewed every four years and annual surveillance audits. Calibration specialties span ten measurement disciplines: flow, volume (from 20 microliters up to 500,000-liter on-site tank calibrations), temperature, mass (1 milligram to 2-tonne scales), dimensional, force, pressure, humidity, electrical quantities, and functional testing of ignition devices. The center also holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for its overall quality management system, qualifying it as a recognized supplier to customers who themselves maintain ISO 9000-family requirements.

In non-destructive testing (NDT) and destructive testing, CIATEQ maintains personnel qualified and certified in accordance with the ASNT recommended practice SNT-TC-1A, covering techniques such as ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, dye-penetrant inspection, magnetic particle testing, and visual inspection, among others. These services support industrial maintenance programs, quality-control inspection of in-service components, weld integrity verification, and failure root-cause analysis — contributing directly to client productivity and safety assurance for critical machinery, structures, and pressure equipment. Complementary destructive testing provides quantitative mechanical property data, allowing clients to correlate NDT findings with material performance metrics and satisfy documentation requirements for codes and standards.

The Plastics and Advanced Materials laboratory (Laboratorio de Plásticos y Materiales Avanzados) provides comprehensive physical, chemical, mechanical, and permeability characterization of polymeric materials, composites, and finished plastic products. Specific services include chemical structure identification by FTIR spectroscopy, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution determination, melt flow index (MFI) measurement, tensile properties per ISO and NOM standards, free-fall impact resistance, Shore A and D hardness, thermal transition temperature analysis, oxygen transmission rate (O2TR), and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). The laboratory further conducts biodegradability testing, polymer formulation and compounding development, failure diagnostics and root-cause analysis of plastic components, and development of composite materials with custom performance properties. These capabilities address material qualification, product design validation, incoming-material quality control, and regulatory compliance testing across packaging, automotive components, and consumer-product applications.

CIATEQ's virtual engineering and advanced manufacturing services complement its laboratory testing portfolio with numerical simulation — including finite element analysis (FEM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and discrete-event simulation — together with high-precision 3- and 5-axis CNC machining, certified welding for special-application components, and additive manufacturing integrated with intelligent production systems under an Industry 4.0 philosophy. These capabilities are commonly combined with laboratory characterization and NDT services in end-to-end development engagements, from concept modeling and prototype fabrication through material validation and final quality inspection, making CIATEQ a single-source technology partner for complex industrial projects.

The strategic sectors that CIATEQ actively serves include automotive and auto parts, aerospace, energy and hydrocarbons, water and environment, food processing, health and medical devices, household appliances, communications and transportation, and general machinery and equipment. With more than four decades of demonstrated track record, a nationally accredited laboratory network recognized by EMA under ISO/IEC 17025:2017, over 5,000 client relationships, and public backing from Mexico's national science and innovation system, CIATEQ represents a credible, rigorously accredited testing and technology-transfer partner for industrial clients seeking high-quality laboratory services within Mexico.
