ARENIUS is an independent industrial testing laboratory established in 2004 and headquartered in Châteaubourg, near Rennes (Brittany, France). Climatic and thermal testing forms one of the central pillars of the ARENIUS service offering. The laboratory operates climatic chambers and thermal-shock equipment capable of reproducing dry-heat exposure, cold-temperature storage, damp-heat cycling, and rapid thermal-shock profiles — simulating the full envelope of temperature and humidity extremes that a product may encounter across its intended service life. These climatic tests are used to identify premature ageing, condensation-related corrosion, seal degradation, and material embrittlement that might not manifest during ambient-condition functional testing. Test programmes are designed to follow established civil, automotive, aeronautical, and military standards, producing documentation that is accepted by OEMs and certification authorities worldwide.

Environmental durability testing extends the climatic capabilities into corrosion and weathering. ARENIUS conducts salt-fog (salt-spray) and salt-mist corrosion tests, UV-weathering exposures, hydrostatic and ambient-pressure variation tests, and ingress-protection (IP-rating) verification for resistance to dust and water penetration. These tests are critical for products intended for outdoor deployment, humid industrial environments, marine applications, or automotive under-bonnet locations where aggressive chemicals and moisture are pervasive. The results allow manufacturers to confirm that seals, coatings, connector housings, and surface finishes will maintain their protective function throughout the specified product lifetime.

Mechanical testing represents an equally important capability at ARENIUS. Vibration test systems generate both sinusoidal and random-vibration load profiles across a broad frequency range, replicating road, rail, aerospace, or shipping-transport excitation spectra. High-capacity shock tables can deliver mechanical-shock and constant-rate-of-strain (CRS) shock pulses to simulate handling drops, pyrotechnic separation events, or rough transport. Endurance and fatigue programmes subject assemblies and sub-components to millions of load cycles to characterise structural life and identify failure modes well before series production. Further mechanical qualification services include abrasion and scratch-resistance testing, traction and compression testing to 50 kN, and fluid-contamination resistance evaluation for sealing systems and electromechanical assemblies.

Electrical and electronic testing capabilities complement the physical programmes. ARENIUS performs electrostatic-discharge (ESD) immunity and susceptibility testing up to 15 kV and carries out electrical-safety verification, making the laboratory a single source for combined electrical and environmental test campaigns — an efficient arrangement for electronics manufacturers that would otherwise need to engage multiple specialised facilities. Beyond test execution, the engineering team at ARENIUS designs and builds custom endurance test benches, including control and measurement software developed in LabVIEW, enabling highly project-specific functional-endurance rigs to be created in-house when standard off-the-shelf equipment cannot replicate an application's actual operating conditions.

Failure analysis is a further discipline within the ARENIUS portfolio. When components or assemblies fail during qualification testing or in the field, the laboratory performs root-cause investigations through micrographic cross-section preparation and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. These techniques expose crack initiation sites, delamination interfaces, corrosion-mechanism pathways, solder-joint defects, and microstructural anomalies that optical inspection cannot resolve. The failure-analysis service supports product-improvement cycles, helps qualify corrective actions, and provides the technical documentation needed for warranty claims or supply-chain dispute resolution.

ARENIUS has held COFRAC (Comité français d'accréditation — the French national accreditation body) accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 since 2008 under accreditation number 1-2044. ISO/IEC 17025 is the internationally recognised standard for the technical competence and impartiality of testing laboratories; COFRAC accreditation is acknowledged under the ILAC mutual recognition arrangement in more than 100 countries, meaning test reports issued within the accredited scope are accepted by OEMs, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities globally. The accredited scope covers climatic, environmental, and mechanical test methods aligned to automotive, aeronautical, military, and general civil standards.
