AFITI (Asociación para el Fomento de la Investigación y la Tecnología de la Seguridad contra Incendios) is a Spanish expert laboratory for fire testing of materials and construction elements, guaranteeing safety and quality in clients' projects. Constituted as a non-profit association in 1987, it grew out of the LICOF fire-testing and research centre — the official fire laboratory of the Spanish Ministry of Industry created in 1975 — and is today a national reference in fire safety. AFITI's services cover fire testing, certification and inspection, and technological services. It is ENAC-accredited (for example for reaction-to-fire testing at its Arganda del Rey facilities near Madrid) and tests fire-extinguishing systems for commercial kitchens to UNE-EN 17446, among many other fire-safety standards. The laboratory supports manufacturers and construction professionals in demonstrating that materials and building elements meet fire-safety requirements, combining testing with certification and inspection services.
